Body Contouring: The new way to shape on your lunch break!

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

The causes of fat and cellulite are varied; hormones, age, and heredity can each play a role in the accumulation of excess fat and dimply, lumpy patches around the body. The VelaShape™ and VelaSmooth™ systems are clinically proven, non-surgical solutions to contour areas of the body that are resistant to weight loss through diet and exercise - like the thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. It is quickly rising in popularity as more people realize the benefits and see results for themselves.

The VelaShape™ and VelaSmooth™ systems are manufactured by Syneron and Candela. Both treatments involve the use of infrared light, radiofrequency, massage rollers, and suctioning to contour the body. VelaSmooth™ was approved by the FDA in 2005 for the temporary reduction of cellulite. The company made improvements to the device, including increasing the power level and reducing the treatment time. The improved device is marketed as VelaShape™ and was approved by the FDA in 2007 to temporary reduce cellulite and reduce the size of the thighs.

VelaShape™ and VelaSmooth™ Costs

VelaShape™ and VelaSmooth™ costs depend on the size of the treatment area. In general, patients pay anywhere from $500 to $3,000. The cost of a single VelaShape™ may be priced higher than the cost of a single VelaSmooth™ treatment. However, VelaShape™ typically requires fewer treatment sessions.

What is VelaShape™?

VelaShape™ is an FDA-approved medical device that uses a combination of suction, massage, radio frequency energy, and infrared light to shape the body, and reduce cellulite and inches on areas like the thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. VelaShape™ delivers a higher amount of energy and intense heat than treatment with VelaSmooth™, but VelaShape™ patients still remain comfortable during the procedure. VelaShape™ is commonly performed in combination with liposuction, tummy tuck, and other body contouring procedures to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

How Does VelaShape™ Work?

The technician applies the VelaShape™ hand piece directly to the surface of the skin in the area to be treated. Mechanical rollers on the hand piece massage and smooth out the skin, while directing infrared radio frequencies into the skin. The radio frequencies warm up the underlying tissue, causing the fat cells to melt and break up. The fat is then naturally flushed out of the body. Patients say the procedure feels like as a warm, deep tissue massage, and they report loosing inches as well as pounds after the procedure. VelaShape™ procedures are recommended weekly for four to six weeks, with touch ups suggested every few months.

Benefits of VelaShape™

VelaShape™ is becoming more popular because it is:

Convenient: an outpatient procedure

Virtually painless: no needles, incisions, or anesthesia needed

Enjoyable: imagine a warming massage

Quick: takes between 20 minutes and two hours, depending on the treatment areas

Effective: patients see results in as little as four weeks

Helpful in stimulating circulation: a result of the massage and suction
